An emergency is defined as a sudden or unexpected incident that requires immediate attention. In the A&E department, we treat patients who need emergency treatment.

At Metro Specialist Hospital, victims of accidents and emergencies can rely on a well trained team handling. The department is equipped with the latest equipment to handle any form of emergencies. With subsequent rehabilitation, the patient will have a better chance of recovery.

The A&E Department is supported by a 24-hour ambulance service. We go the extra mile, literally, when receive request to ferry patients overland from Sungai Petani to Northern Region or other states.

Our A&E Department handles the following types of emergencies:

• Accidents emergencies
- Patients with multiple injuries from road traffic accidents, industrial accidents and explosions etc.
• Medical emergencies
- Cardiac arrest, acute myocardial attack (heart attack), severe infections, asthma, coma, fits, stroke, poisoning and overdoses etc.
• Surgical emergencies
- Acute appendicitis, bowel obstruction, intra abdominal injury, head injury, urological emergency or caesarian section.
• Orthopaedic emergencies
- Fractures, dislocations, spinal injuries and sports injuries.

Other services provided by the A&E Department includes
• 24 hours specialist on call.
• 24 hours Pharmacy, Imaging and Laboratory Services.
• Inter-hospitals Transfer by 24 hours Ambulance service.
• Nebulizer facilities.
Priority is given to whoever comes to A&E department.
Urgent and fast investigation would be carried immediately by well trained emergency medical doctors and trained staffs, laboratory and imaging departments support.

In A&E department, all staffs are trained to act fast and diagnose correctly so the patient will have better chance of survival with the report of diagnostic and measurements.
